My Bio

After living in Naples for a few years, I returned to the UK with an American High School diploma to go on and study A-level Spanish, Italian and English, before going off to university to study Spanish and Portuguese.

After the experience of an internship translating articles for a Brazilian newspaper, on completing my undergraduate degree I would stay on at Portsmouth University to do a post grad diploma in translation.

I went on to use the skills acquired studying translation to writing software manuals, which started my journey working in IT as a Technical Author. Since then I have worked as a technical author and then latterly jumping over the fence from the dev team to marketing team, to writing product lead generation and sale copy and digital content.

I have been lucky that all my writing positions have also given me the opportunity to develop not just my written communication, but also my visual communication skills through designing training packages, marketing communications and corporate image artefacts, and I have been able to progress with design in my spare time; which more recently has developed into my side hustle.

Language and communication

Along with a fascination of how languages work; explaining and communicating complex ideas, systems or solutions in a way that is accessible to the audience; has played a fundamental part in my career.

Whether that has been through translation, as a technical author or as a copywriter, or in customer support roles, I quickly realised that giving people the best information possible is key to engagement. The ideas or concepts being described may be different, the audience may change; but the end result is the same, people want to know what something can do for them.

Written communication

Over the years I have specialised in writing, and have spent time exploring how language is used, right down to a single word, and how that word could be used to encourage, influence, and promote ideas or persuade someone into buying a concept or object.

Visual communication

Sharing information and communicating visually through design, illustrations, pictures and now through video is a equally essential way to share knowledge with others. I have been lucky enough that my writing roles have also allowed me to explore my design side with looking at the impact of design, how a single image or colour can also be used to encourage, influence or promote concepts and ideas.

Verbal communication

As part of my roles I have been able to develop my verbal communication, being comfortable explaining complex ideas through presentations or through the delivery of training sessions.
